afford v. 買得起；(有時間)做，能做
[觀察] I'm afraid I can't afford it. 我恐怕買不起。
[探究] afford表示“負擔(dān)得起(費用、損失、后果等)”，常用在含情態(tài)動詞________， could, be able to等的________和疑問句。
(1)“afford＋n./pron.”意為“負擔(dān)得起……”。例如：
I can't afford the time for the housework.我沒時間做家務(wù)。
(2)afford to do sth.意為“負擔(dān)得起做某事”。例如：
In the past, many people couldn't afford to go to school.

句型透視

[探究] (1)any other意為“________”，后接可數(shù)名詞_______(單數(shù)/復(fù)數(shù))，常用于______句。
(2)for sale意為“待售；供出售”，for sale 中的sale 是動詞sell的名詞形式，該短語用來作后置定語、表語或狀語。

(1)any other后接可數(shù)名詞單數(shù)時，表示在同一范圍內(nèi)的其他任何一個，多用于比較句，此時的比較級含有最高級的意思。例如：
Tom is stronger than any other boy in his class.
＝Tom is the strongest boy in his class.

(2)on sale意為“出售，減價出售”。例如：
All books are on sale today.今天所有的書降價出售。

①表示對比或轉(zhuǎn)折，意為“而；然而”。例如：

②while作名詞，意為“一會兒；一段時間”。例如：
Some people like to lie down for a while after lunch.
有些人喜歡午飯后躺一會兒。
(2)when引導(dǎo)時間狀語從句時，與while同義，從句中的謂語動詞可以是延續(xù)性的，也可以是非延續(xù)性的。
