Language practice

Observe the following examples carefully. 

They are all from this module.

1. Many people were dying because they did not get to hospital quickly enough.

2. There were few doctors, so he had to work hard on his own.

3. He wrote books so that they could learn about how he treated the sick.

4. She’s my hero because she’s one of the best table tennis players in the world.

5. She trained hard, so she became a great player later.

6. He invented special medical tools to use outside hospitals and close to the fighting areas so that doctors could treat the wounded more quickly.

Language point 

I 原因狀語從句

如果從句表示的是主句行為的原因,就構(gòu)成原因狀語從句。原因狀語從句由表示原因的連詞引導(dǎo),常用的是because。

注意: because 習(xí)慣上不能與 so 連用;

because引導(dǎo)的原因狀語從句有時(shí)可以與帶有because of 短語的句子互換。

Ⅱ 目的狀語從句

目的狀語從句有一個(gè)特點(diǎn):從句中一般都含有表示可能性的詞:could,will,would,can等。

如果從句表示的是主句行為的目的,該從句就是目的狀語從句。目的狀語從句可以由so that引導(dǎo)。

Ⅲ 結(jié)果狀語從句

本模塊中我們接觸的結(jié)果狀語從句是由so引導(dǎo)的,表示“由于某個(gè)行為而導(dǎo)致的結(jié)果”。例如:

so that與so一詞之差, 前者連接目的狀

語從句, 而后者連接結(jié)果狀語從句。 從句中動(dòng)詞的時(shí)態(tài)也有區(qū)別:

目的狀語從句中時(shí)態(tài)表示將來、可能性,而結(jié)果狀語從句中表示已經(jīng)發(fā)生。
