Language points
1.Tony, could you please help out with a few things? 托尼，你能幫忙做幾件事嗎？
help out (with something) 是一個(gè)動(dòng)詞短語， 表示在某人繁忙或是遇到困難時(shí)“給予幫助”。
本單元中這句話：
You watch TV all the time and never help out around the house!
你老是看電視，從不幫忙干家務(wù)。
2. I think two hours of TV is enough for you!
我認(rèn)為你看兩個(gè)小時(shí)電視就足夠了！
此處，two hours of TV雖為復(fù)數(shù)，但卻表達(dá)一種整體的觀念。英語語法規(guī)定，當(dāng)時(shí)間、長(zhǎng)度、距離或其他可數(shù)名詞表示一個(gè)完整的整體概念作主語時(shí)，其后的謂語動(dòng)詞用單數(shù)形式。
Two months is quite a long time.
兩個(gè)月是挺長(zhǎng)的一段時(shí)間。
Thirty students is not a big number for a class.
30人對(duì)一個(gè)班來說算不上是大數(shù)目。
3. …because Mom will be back from shopping any minute now. …
因?yàn)閶寢岆S時(shí)都會(huì)買完東西回來。
any minute now 是一種常見口語表達(dá)，相當(dāng)于“隨時(shí)；馬上；在任何時(shí)候”的意思，minute 還可替換為“second, moment, time”等。
e.g. We are expecting them any moment now.
我們期待他們隨時(shí)到來。
4. And she won’t be happy if she sees this mess.
如果她看到這么亂會(huì)生氣的。
mess意為“臟亂狀態(tài)；凌亂狀態(tài)”，一般用單數(shù)。
Your hair is a mess. 你頭發(fā)很亂。
與mess搭配的常用短語有：in a mess, make a mess, clean up the mess 以及What a mess!
