Language points
1. population
population意為“人口數(shù)量”，謂語動(dòng)詞要用單數(shù)形式。詢問人口數(shù)量時(shí)要用“What’s the population of ...?”提問，而不用how many或how much等提問。表示人口“多”要用large 或 big；表示人口“少”要用small。
這個(gè)城市的人口是600萬。
The population of this city is six million．
中國(guó)的人口比美國(guó)的人口多很多。
The population of China is much larger than that of the USA.
2. man-made
為合成形容詞，意為“人造的”。英語中像這樣與-made復(fù)合而成的形容詞還有：handmade(手工制作的)、homemade (家庭制作的)、machine-made (機(jī)制的)等，用以描述產(chǎn)品的生產(chǎn)或制造手段、特點(diǎn)等。
這種魚都是自家做的。
This kind of fish is homemade.

feel free是英語口語中一個(gè)常用表達(dá)。若有人讓你feel free to do something，就是讓你無需拘束，只管按照自己的意愿去做某事。e.g.

我可以用一下你的電腦嗎？
B: Yes, feel free.可以，請(qǐng)隨意。
4. As far as I know, there are no man-made objects as big as this.
據(jù)我所知，再?zèng)]有像它這樣大的人造物體了。
as far as I know是一個(gè)固定的表達(dá)方式，還可以
說so far as I know，意思是“據(jù)我所知”。

5. Qomolangma is 8,848.86 meters high.
It is … meters high (long, wide…).
它……米高(長(zhǎng),寬……)。
英語表示“有多長(zhǎng)(寬，高……)”時(shí)，一般將數(shù)詞和數(shù)量單位放在表示長(zhǎng)寬高的形容詞前作狀語。

much higher 意為“高得多”。在形容比較級(jí)前還可以用much, even, a little, still ,a lot, less等修飾詞表示程度。

日本土地面積只比德國(guó)大一點(diǎn)兒。

7. the Ming Great Wall 明長(zhǎng)城
“明長(zhǎng)城”是指明朝時(shí)期為了防御北方游牧民族的騷擾，歷時(shí)一百多年在北部地區(qū)修筑的軍事防御工程。這段長(zhǎng)城東起遼寧虎山，西至甘肅嘉峪關(guān)，從東向西橫貫多個(gè)省、 直轄市、自治區(qū)，全長(zhǎng)約8851.8千米，是現(xiàn)存歷代長(zhǎng)城遺跡中最完整、最堅(jiān)固的。
