Language Points
1.invent v. 發(fā)明
指經(jīng)過認識和實踐創(chuàng)造出前所未有的事物。
►Edison invented the light bulb.
愛迪生發(fā)明了電燈泡。
invention和inventor都是名詞, 前者意為“發(fā)明”,后者意為“發(fā)明家”。
discover, invent和find都是動詞, 它們的詞義相近, 但是有區(qū)別:
★discover意為“發(fā)現(xiàn)”, 指發(fā)現(xiàn)某種本來存在,但以前未被發(fā)現(xiàn)或未為人所知的事物或現(xiàn)象。
►The lost bike was discovered at the bus stop.
丟了的自行車發(fā)現(xiàn)在公共汽車站那兒。
►Later I discovered that he was so kind.
后來我發(fā)現(xiàn)他如此善良。
★invent 意為“發(fā)明”, 指發(fā)明以前不存在的東西。
►Do you know who invented the computer?
你知道誰發(fā)明的電腦嗎?
★find 意為“找到, 發(fā)現(xiàn)”, 指偶然發(fā)現(xiàn)或幾乎沒有困難地發(fā)現(xiàn)。
►I found some old photos in that drawer.
我在那個抽屜里發(fā)現(xiàn)了一些舊照片。
2. What are they used for? 它們是用來做什么的?
be used for sth. /doing sth.意為“被用來做某事”,表示用途或目的,后接名詞或動名詞,相當(dāng)于be used to do sth.
►Clothes are used for keeping (= to keep) warm.
►Wood can be used for building (= to build) houses.
►The stick is used to write on the blackboard.
used to do sth.意為“過去常常做某事”。
►I used to smoke when I was young.
use sth. to do sth.意為“使用某物來做某事”, 其被動結(jié)構(gòu)為“sth. be used to do sth.”。
►These knives are used to cut pies.
be used as 意為“被用作……,被作為……使用”。
►English is used as a foreign language in China.
be used by 意為“被……使用”。
►Rubbers are often used by students to correct mistakes.

My pleasure也可說成It’s a / my pleasure.或 A pleasure,意思是“我的榮幸;愿為你效勞;這是件愉快的事”。

pleasure n. 愉快;高興

you do seem to have a point … 是個強調(diào)句,
用“助動詞do +謂語動詞原形”的結(jié)構(gòu)。
► Do Stay for supper! 一定要留下吃晚飯!
►He did come here yesterday. 他昨天的確來這兒了。
(2) have a point 有道理
►I guess you have a point there. 我想你說的有道理。
►Strangely, both of them may have a point.
奇怪的是, 兩個人似乎都有道理。
5. ...it mentioned that the zipper was...
(1) mention表示“提到;提及”,是及物動詞,其后接名詞或代詞作賓語時,無需用任何介詞;另外注意不接雙賓語。如:
►Don’t mention this problem this evening.
今晚別提這個問題。
►Nobody mentioned the time of this meeting.
誰也沒有提到這次會議的時間。
►He never mentioned his tall friend to me.
/ He never mentioned to me that he had a tall friend.
他從未向我提及他有個女朋友。
(2)若后接動詞,要用動名詞,不能用不定式。
►Whenever I mention playing football, he says he’ s too busy.
我一提起踢足球,他就說太忙。
(3) 口語中說 Don’ t mention it. 主要用來回答感謝,有時也用來回答道歉。如:
►A:Thank you very much. 多謝你了。
B:Don’ t mention it. 不客氣。
►A:I’ m sorry to have troubled you. 對不起打擾你了。
B:Don’ t mention it. 沒關(guān)系。
