[Alice and He Wei are in Space World.]

Alice: I wonder where we should go next.

He Wei: How about that new ride over there?

Alice: Well ... it looks scary.

He Wei: Come on! I promise it’ll be exciting! If you’re scared, just shout or hold my hand.

[After the ride…]

Alice: You were right! That was fun! I was scared at first, but shouting did help.

He Wei: See, that wasn’t so bad, right? You never know until you try something.

Alice: Yes, I’m so glad I tried it!

He Wei: Do you want to go to Water World now?

Alice: Sure, but I’m getting hungry. Do you know where we can get some good food quickly?

He Wei: Of course! I suggest Water City Restaurant in Water World. It serves delicious food.

Alice: Great! Let’s go!

[On their way to Water City Restaurant,  Alice and He Wei pass by Uncle Bob’s.]

Alice: Look! This restaurant looks interesting. The sign says a rock band plays here every evening.

While Reading

Read the first scene and translate the sentences.

1.I wonder where we should go next.

我想知道下面我們要去哪里。

2.If you’re scared, just shout or hold my hand.

如果你很害怕,就只管大聲喊或者抓緊我的手。

Language Points

If you’re afraid, just shout or hold my hand.

如果你害怕,就喊出來或抓著我的手。 

shout 作動詞,意為“呼喊;呼叫;大聲說”。

常用短語:

(1) shout at sb. 意為“沖某人大聲叫嚷”,含有批評、指責的意思。

►Don’t shout at your parents.  別對你父母大聲叫嚷。

(2) shout to sb. 意為“對某人大聲叫喊”,沒有批評、指責的意思。

►He shouted to the girl and warned her of the danger.     

他沖那個女孩大喊, 警告她有危險。

(3) shout out 意為“喊出;突然呼喊”。

►Only a few people are brave enough to shout out her name. 只有少數(shù)人有勇氣喊她的名字。

I was scared at first, but shouting did help. 

起初我很害怕,但喊出來確實有用。

did 此處用作助動詞,在句中起強調作用,用來表達說話者的一種強烈的感情。did要重讀,后接動詞原形,意為“確實:務必;一定;的確”等。 

do 隨主語人稱、數(shù)和句子的時態(tài)的變化而變化。

►I did make a phone call to you yesterday. 

昨天我確實給你打了電話。

►Please do be quiet for a moment. 請務必安靜一會兒。

I suggest Water City Restaurant in Water World.  

 我推薦水上世界的水城餐館。

suggest作及物動同,意為“建議;提議”,其名詞形式為suggestion (建議;提議)。其用法如下:

(l) suggest sth. 意為“建議/提議某事”。

►He suggested a two-day-long stay in Beijing on the way home.

他建議回家時在北京停留兩天。

(2) suggest doing sth. 意為“建議/提議做 某事”。

►My father suggested calling for a doctor at once. 

我父親建議馬上請個醫(yī)生。

(3)suggest-that引導的賓語從句。此時賓語從句要用虛擬語氣,即should + 動詞原形,其中should可省略。

►The teacher suggested that we (should) speak as much English as possible in class.

老師建議我們在課堂上盡可能多地說英語。
