情態(tài)動詞：Can, May , Could 的用法
1.共同點(diǎn)：三者均可表示請求，允許。意思為：”………………可以嗎？”
2.不同點(diǎn)： CAN表示請求或允許，多用于口語中，意為“可以、能”等。
如：Can I help you ?
May表示“許可、準(zhǔn)許、請求許可”，此時與 can 同義，可以互換使用
如：May I use your ruler ?
Sure ,/Certianly . /Yes , please.
No, you mustn’t /No , you can’t .
注意：否定回答不能說成No, you may not .

Could 的其他幾種用法：
1.Could 作為can的過去式，表示過去的能力。
2.表示驚訝，懷疑，不相信等態(tài)度，主要用于否定句或者疑問句，此時could 與can無時間上的區(qū)別，但語氣比can緩和，情緒要弱。
3.表示可能性，只對將來，現(xiàn)在后者過去某種可能的推測
4，用于虛擬語氣。

此處代詞it僅為形式上的主語, 真正的主語是to provide … for their children。我們也可將It is one’s job (duty, …) to do something.視為一個固定的句型, 表示“做某事是某人的工作(職責(zé)等)”。如:

anyway是一個副詞, 若位于句首, 其后往往會有逗號將其與句子的其他內(nèi)容隔開。anyway在此句中的作用是追加評論, 相當(dāng)于漢語的“反正; 仍然; 依然”。如:

◆相同點(diǎn)
ill 與sick 都可以表示“生病的”，都可作表語。如：
Alice was ill / sick yesterday.
◆不同點(diǎn)
表示“生病”時，sick 可作定語，但ill 通常不作定語。如：
Could you help the sick girl?
