1.Albert Einstein was one of the greatest minds of the last century. 

◆one of…意為“……之一”,后接名詞或代詞的復(fù)數(shù)形式。“one of+the+形容詞最高級(jí)+名詞復(fù)數(shù)”意為“最……之一”,one of…作主語時(shí),謂語動(dòng)詞用第三人稱單數(shù)形式。

◆mind在這里為名詞,意為“聰明人,富有才智的人”。

【拓展】 mind作名詞還可意為“頭腦,智慧,心思”;作動(dòng)詞,意為“介意,在乎”,主要用于疑問句和否定句。

【固定搭配】 change one’s mind改變主意,make up one’s mind做出決定,keep…in mind將……記在心中,never mind不要緊

◆century意為“世紀(jì)”,one century相當(dāng)于one hundred years。

2.During his lifetime,Einstein thought about the universe and solved many problems in physics. 

◆本句是一個(gè)簡單句,and連接兩個(gè)并列謂語。

◆during為介詞,意為“在……期間”。

【辨析】during,for

(1)during后接表時(shí)間長度的名詞,表示特定的時(shí)間,時(shí)間段明確,起止時(shí)間分明。

(2)for后接一段時(shí)間,用于表示時(shí)間的長短,多與帶數(shù)詞的名詞短語連用,用于回答以how long開頭的疑問句。

◆solve為動(dòng)詞,意為“解決,解答”,通常指解答難題或解決難以處理的問題,常與problem構(gòu)成短語。

3.Einstein is most famous for his Theory of Relativity. 

◆be most famous for意為“以……最為出名”。most還可用especially等替換,表示“尤以……出名”,句中most表示“很,非常”,其前不加冠詞。

◆be famous for意為“因……而著名”,表示某人或某地因某種知識(shí)、技能、作品或特征而出名。其中for是表示原因的介詞,意為“因?yàn)?由于”,后接表示原因的名詞。

【辨析】 be famous for,be famous as

(1)當(dāng)主語是表示人的名詞時(shí),be famous for表示“因某種技能、知識(shí)、作品或特征而出名”,be famous as表示“某人因某種身份而出名”。

(2)當(dāng)主語是表示地點(diǎn)或事物的名詞時(shí),be famous for表示“以某種特點(diǎn)、價(jià)值或特產(chǎn)而出名”,be famous as則表示“以……樣的產(chǎn)地或形式而出名”。
