How are you？Everyone here is fine.
Do you want to surprise❷ your friends? Brian，Danny and I did an experiment in science class this week. I suggest❸ you try it，too❹！ First，get a jar full of water and a piece of cardboard. Cover the jar with the cardboard and turn the jar over. Next，take your hand off. Can you guess what happens? The cardboard holds the water in the jar! The air pressure pushing up on the cardboard is higher than that of the water pushing down from inside the jar. The higher air pressure outside the jar holds the cardboard in place.
Science is interesting. Don’t you think so?

我父親一句話也沒(méi)有說(shuō)就出去了。

【點(diǎn)撥】句意：不要不吃早飯就去上學(xué)。這是個(gè)壞習(xí)慣。
after 在……之后；with表示伴隨；without表示沒(méi)有，故選C。

surprise/sə'praɪz/ v.使驚奇 n.驚喜，驚奇
eg：The results might surprise you!
結(jié)果可能使你驚訝！
surprise為及物動(dòng)詞，后面直接跟賓語(yǔ)，意為“使驚奇，使感到驚訝”。
eg：You surprise me. 你使我感到驚訝。
surprised 是surprise的過(guò)去分詞形式，可以作形容詞，通常作表語(yǔ)，表示人的狀態(tài)，意為“吃驚的”。短語(yǔ)：be surprised at/by為固定搭配，意為“對(duì)……感到吃驚”。
eg：All of them were surprised at the UFO.
他們都對(duì)不明飛行物感到吃驚。
surprise為名詞，意為“驚奇；使人驚奇的事”。 也可以構(gòu)成詞組：in surprise“驚訝地”；to one’s surprise“令某人吃驚的是”。
eg：I have a surprise for you.
我有一個(gè)驚喜給你。
To my surprise, he can finish this work in a short time.
令我吃驚的是，他能在很短的時(shí)間內(nèi)完成這項(xiàng)工作。
