1．Chopsticks 筷子
Chopsticks play an important role in Chinese food culture. Chopsticks are called “kuaizi” in Chinese and were called “zhu” in ancient times. Chinese people have been using chopsticks as one of the main tableware (餐具) for more than 3,000 years.
筷子在中國(guó)的飲食文化中具有重要意義�？曜釉诠艜r(shí)也稱“箸”。中國(guó)人使用筷子作為餐具已經(jīng)有3 000多年的歷史了。
Chopsticks can be classified into five groups based on the materials used to make them, such as wood, metal, bone, stone and compound (混合) chopsticks. Bamboo and wood chopsticks are the most popular ones used among Chinese people.
筷子根據(jù)用料可分為五種，如木頭、金屬、骨頭、石材和混合材料筷子。竹子和木頭筷子是中國(guó)人最常用的。
2．Chopsticks and Chinese Food 筷子與中國(guó)菜
The chopsticks have played a promoting role in the development of the cuisine (烹飪) techniques. Some Chinese dishes are prepared with chopsticks, such as cold and dressed dish, noodles, Instant-boiled Mutton, Candied Floss Potatoes and other dishes.
筷子對(duì)中國(guó)廚藝的發(fā)展起到了推波助瀾的作用。有些中國(guó)菜需要用筷子來(lái)做廚具，如冷盤(pán)、面食、涮羊肉、拔絲土豆及其他菜肴。
3．Table Manners 餐桌禮儀
There're a few things to avoid when using chopsticks. Chinese people usually don't beat their bowls while eating, since the behavior used to be practiced by beggars. Also don't insert chopsticks in a bowl upright because it is a custom (習(xí)俗) exclusively used in sacrifice.
使用筷子時(shí)，有一些忌諱。中國(guó)人用筷子吃飯時(shí)，忌諱敲打碗盆，因?yàn)檫@是乞丐的行為。還有，忌諱在碗里豎著插筷子，因?yàn)檫@是祭祀時(shí)的習(xí)俗。
