It’s totally different from ours. There are, in fact, many differences between schools internationally and even within the same country.

Did you notice?

在比較學;虬嗉壌笮r,英語的思維主要指的是人數(shù)多少而不是面積大小。托尼喜歡哪所學校的原因,不在于學校的設備有多先進,而在于哪個學校的學生人數(shù)多,因為人多就意味著朋友也更多。

Language points

1. What are English schools like?

“What + be動詞 + sth + like?”意為“……怎么樣?”,用來詢問事物的性質(zhì)、質(zhì)量、特征等。 

“What + be動詞 + sb + like?”既可用來詢問人的性格、能力等,也可用來詢問外表。

— What’s your new neighbour like?

— He’s friendly and he often wears a pair of glasses.

2. I took myself.

我自己拍的。

這里的反身代詞myself 在句中作同位語,起加強語氣的作用。反身代詞在句中還可以作賓語。如:

Did they enjoy themselves last Sunday?

他們上個星期天玩得高興嗎?

We should take care of ourselves.

我們應該照顧自己。

3. It’s got about 700 pupils.

have / has got在形式上是現(xiàn)在完成 時,但在內(nèi)容上卻是現(xiàn)在時,在口語中常用來代替have / has。

4. So ours is a bit bigger.

名詞性物主代詞具有名詞的特征,相當于“形容詞性物主代詞+名詞”。

Pronunciation and speaking

Stress 重讀 

英語句子一般由多個單詞構成,這些單詞的重讀一般遵循以下規(guī)律:名詞、形容詞、數(shù)詞、實義動詞、副詞、代詞和表達強烈思想感情的感嘆詞需要重讀;人稱代詞、連詞、冠詞、介詞、以及少數(shù)系動詞和助動詞等主要起語法作用的單詞一般不重讀(當然有少數(shù)例外)。

在具體的語境中,句子中重讀的單詞不同,所表達的意思也會不同。如:

What’s wrong with you?  (Are you ill?)

What’s wrong with you? (Everybody else is OK.)

What’s wrong with you? (Are you feeling happy or sad?)

對于語音的學習,聽讀模仿是最常見、最有效的方法之一。同學們可以在準確朗讀句子的基礎上,反復地聽、跟讀、模仿,慢慢提高語音水平。
