狀語從句(The adverbial clause)
一、狀語從句的概念和基本類型
狀語從句是指句子用作狀語時(shí)，起副詞作用的句子。狀語從句一般由連詞（從屬連詞）引導(dǎo)，也可以由詞組引起。從句位于句首或句中時(shí)通常用逗號與主句隔開，位于句尾時(shí)可以不用逗號隔開。
狀語從句根據(jù)其作用可分為時(shí)間、地點(diǎn)、原因、條件、目的、結(jié)果、讓步、方式和比較等從句。
二、狀語從句辨析
（一）時(shí)間狀語從句
1.while, as, when
（1）while只能用于延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞。當(dāng)從句和主句的謂語動(dòng)詞都為延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞，且有對比關(guān)系的時(shí)候，只能用while。例如：
Strike while the iron is hot.
趁熱打鐵。（用于延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞）
While my wife was reading the newspaper, I was watching TV.
當(dāng)我妻子在看報(bào)紙的時(shí)候，我在看電視。（表動(dòng)作同時(shí)發(fā)生）
（2）as可以表示主句和從句的動(dòng)作同時(shí)進(jìn)行，譯為“一邊……一邊……”；也可以表示“時(shí)間的推移，隨著”。例如：
As time went on, the weather got worse.
隨著時(shí)間的流逝，天氣變得越來越糟。
（3）when一般用于短暫性動(dòng)詞和延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞，且當(dāng)表示動(dòng)作先后發(fā)生時(shí)，只用when，不用while。例如：
When he had finished the homework, he took a short rest.
他完成作業(yè)后，休息了片刻。（表示動(dòng)作先后）
2. before, after
before表示主句動(dòng)作發(fā)生在從句動(dòng)作之前；after表示主句動(dòng)作發(fā)生在從句動(dòng)作之后。例如：
Take care of my baby after I leave.
在我離開之后照顧好我的孩子。
She worked in Shanghai before she came here.
她來這之前在上海工作。
注意：before和after 也可以作介詞，此時(shí)后接名詞或動(dòng)名詞。
I would like to think it over before deciding .
我還是想想再決定吧。
3. until與till及not...until / till
（1）until, till
用于肯定句中，until和till的用法一樣，主句動(dòng)詞為延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞，表示“直到……為止”。但是位于句首的時(shí)候只能用until。例如：
I waited for him till / until he came back.
我一直等到他回來。
Until you told me the news I had no idea of it.
我對這個(gè)消息一無所知，直到你告訴我。
（2）not…until / till
用于否定句中，多用until，主句用非延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞，表示“直到……才”。例如：
I didn’t go to bed until my father came back.
直到我父親回來我才上床睡覺。
4. since
由since引導(dǎo)的時(shí)間狀語從句，一般情況下，當(dāng)從句謂語動(dòng)詞用一般過去時(shí)，而主句的謂語動(dòng)詞用現(xiàn)在完成時(shí)。
Where have you been since I last saw you?
自上次我和你見面以后，你到哪里去了？
